The Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Gas), Ekperikpe Ekpo, has addressed the long lines at the CNG conversion centre on Airport Road in Abuja.
This centre, managed by NIPCO filling stations, the Nigerian National Petroleum Company (NNPCL), and EPP Gas, has faced complaints about a gas shortage, leading to a lengthy, unattended vehicle queue.
In a press statement, the minister assured that the government is ready to tackle the issue and that his ministry will resolve it quickly.
“I learned yesterday about the long queue at NIPCO on Airport Road. This project is privately managed with NNPC. I have sent a letter to EPP Gas to explain the reason for the long wait,” he stated.
“When I opened the CNG stations, there were supposed to be 12 operational ones. I can promise that we will find a solution after today’s meeting with NNPC and EPP Gas.
“There is enough gas available. The issue might be due to insufficient infrastructure. We need to improve the infrastructure for gas delivery. Our country produces more than enough gas.”
He continued, “The President has emphasized the importance of CNG. We know he established a committee to promote the CNG project. As a minister, I oversee the developments.
“It is essential to inform the public that CNG is here to stay. We must pursue this path because CNG is more affordable and environmentally friendly. The President has mentioned converting many filling stations nationwide to CNG stations.
“Using CNG can lead to significant savings.”
