Tragedy struck in Eziezekwe village, Abagana, Njikoka Local Government Area of Anambra State, when a middle-aged man, Nwana, set his wife, Chioma Nwana, on fire during an argument over alleged infidelity. Chioma, who suffered severe burns, passed away on Wednesday morning after receiving treatment at a local hospital.
The incident happened on Tuesday night after Nwana accused his wife of having an affair. According to community sources, Nwana confronted Chioma when she returned home, allegedly after spending time with another man. During the heated exchange, he poured petrol on her and set her ablaze.
One resident, who chose to remain anonymous, described the chilling event. “The woman returned home, and her husband accused her of being unfaithful. Their argument escalated, and he poured fuel on her before lighting her on fire. She was rushed to the hospital but sadly didn’t survive.”
The couple, who lived in the community with their six children, had no history of violence reported before the tragic event.
Nwana later walked into the Abagana Divisional Police Station and reportedly confessed to the crime.
DSP Tochukwu Ikenga, the Anambra State Police Public Relations Officer, confirmed the incident and provided an update. “The suspect is in custody. Unfortunately, the victim died this morning. The Commissioner of Police, CP Nnaghe Itam, has directed the transfer of the case to the Homicide Unit for a thorough investigation.”
This heartbreaking case has left the community in shock as investigations continue.
