Lagosians Ask: When Will Mosques Be Shut Down for Noise Pollution?
On November 6th, the Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) launched an operation to tackle noise pollution. They sealed prominent churches and clubs over noise disturbances.
LASEPA explained on X (formerly Twitter) that the shutdown aimed to create a quieter, healthier environment for Lagos residents.
They listed the affected locations, including The Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG) and Celestial Church of God.
Also shutting down nightclubs and recreational centers like Oma Night-club and Lounge, Bridge Spot Bar, Okiki Event Center and Hall, Emota Paradise (Phase 2), CF Hotel & Suites, House 27 Hotel & Suites, Echo Spring Hotel, and Smile T Continental Hotel.
Their focus are on areas with noticeable noise disturbances like Ogudu, Iyana Ejigbo, Isolo, Ajao Estate, Oshodi, Ilasamaja, and Okota.
However, many Lagosians have asked when mosques will be shut down for noise pollution. They believe that mosques in residential areas also contribute to noise, especially with early morning prayers. They want mosques to follow the same rules as churches and nightclubs.
Some reactions from X:
@FidelHilda– How many mosques have you shut down 👎👎👎👎You all days are numbered.
@OdewoleMatthew3- Everywhere is calm until e reach mosque.
@Kashamadupenisa- When are you coming to Anthony Village Central Mosque?
@poyinlol- Sir, hope you will also deal with those mosques too, with their speakers always outside, waking one up for no reason.
@FlyFix_Fehyee- Please come to Ikotun. I’ve reported one particular mosque near my house. Nothing has been done @LasepaOfficial.
