Lagos Teacher Suspended After Viral Assault Video.
A disturbing case of child abuse has emerged from Christ Mitots School in Ikorodu, Lagos, where three-year-old identified as Michael Abayomi became the victim of physical assault by his teacher, Stella Nwadigo.
The incident was captured on video and widely shared across social media platforms. In the footage, little Michael, barely old enough to understand why his teacher would harm him, was repeatedly hit on the face by his teacher for making mistakes in his lessons.
An act the school itself has described as “completely unacceptable” physical discipline. The school administrative immediately action by indefinitely suspending Nwadigo while they conduct a thorough investigation.
They’ve also reached out to Michael’s family, offering support and apologies, though one might question whether any apology can truly address the trauma inflicted on such a young child.
In what appears to be damage control, The administrative has announced steps to prevent such incidents from happening again. These include training teachers on how to protect children and use better ways to discipline them, as well as creating a safe and private way for people to report issues.
Still, many are questioning why these basic safeguards weren’t already part of a school trusted to care for young children.
The incident has started a bigger discussion about keeping children safe in schools, especially the youngest and most vulnerable ones. While the school’s plan looks good on paper, the real challenge will be making sure these changes actually happen. Parents now have to wonder if their children are truly safe in a place that should protect them.
