How Franklin Nwadialo, Ogbaru LGA Chairman, Was Arrested in the U.S. for Forging Fake Identities to Dupe Victims in Multi-Million Dollar Scam
Franklin Nwadialo, the newly elected chairman of Ogbaru Local Government Area in Anambra State, was arrested by the Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI).
Nwadialo faced charges for his involvement in a $3.3 million romance scam, also known as Yahoo Yahoo after he arrived at an airport in Texas. This was reported by Daily Trust News.
He allegedly used dating sites like Match, Zoosk, and Christian Cafe to connect with victims. Nwadialo created a fake profile and pretended to be a military officer.
Nwadialo now faces formal charges under the U.S. justice system and will undergo investigation. If convicted, he could face a sentence of up to twenty years in prison.
He allegedly manipulated victims with false stories. For example, he conned a victim out of $150,000 by claiming the military fined him for revealing his location and needed the money to cover the fine.
Franklin Nwadialo also allegedly tricked a victim into reinvesting $270,000 into a cryptocurrency account he controlled.
In 2019, Nwadialo scammed another victim by convincing them he couldn’t transfer funds and needed help moving money after his father’s death. This scam cost the victim $330,000.
Additionally, Nwadialo allegedly defrauded another victim of $310,000 for his father’s funeral and his son’s tuition, which he used for his benefit.
Among these allegations, another victim claims Nwadialo defrauded him of $2.4 million.
