“Nigeria, please help! The EFCC just arrested me.”
Popular Nigerian crossdresser Okuneye Idris Olanrewaju, better known as Bobrisky, is now in EFCC custody. Before this, immigration officials caught him at the Seme border on October 21, 2024, as he tried to flee to the Benin Republic. Although the exact release date is unclear, he was released on bail shortly after.
On November 1, 2024, Bobrisky attempted to leave Nigeria again through Lagos’s Murtala Muhammed International Airport . The EFCC stopped him from boarding his KLM flight to London and arrested him (video footage) . Reports suggest he tried to avoid detection by having someone else stamp his passport
The NIS considers Bobrisky a “person of interest” in their investigations and re-arrested him for ignoring multiple EFCC invitations related to serious allegations he made against them.
The EFCC is holding Bobrisky because he claimed to have bribed them to drop his money laundering case. However, he has provided no proof and has not appeared before the National Assembly to address these claims.
Social media is abuzz with mixed reactions. Comedian Seyi Law expressed confusion, asking, “Did any court order him not to travel? Why let him board the plane and humiliate him like this?” He questioned, “If there was no travel restriction, why arrest him? Why hasn’t there been a travel restriction since his Seme escape attempt, if he was really ‘a person of interest?'”
