Spyro Reveals the Shocking Truth: Why Being a ‘Jesus Boy’ is Hurting His Music Career
Afrobeats star Spyro recently opened up about the challenges of being openly Christian in the music industry.
Spyro, whose real name is Oludipe Oluwasanmi David, shared how branding himself as a “Jesus boy” has led to discrimination. Despite his success, many media outlets seem to overlook his music. Meanwhile, artists with less impact often get the spotlight.
“It’s like the system is designed to pull you down once you declare Christ publicly,” Spyro revealed in an interview with Echo Room. He explained that most of his support comes from paid promotions, with little organic backing from industry insiders.
This isn’t the first time an artist has faced such challenges. Spyro recalled a conversation with Banky W, the former R&B star turned pastor.
Banky shared that his struggles began when he embraced his faith publicly. “When I was a bad boy, things went smoothly,” Banky had told him. “But the moment I decided to do things God’s way, the war began.”
Spyro through his story, he challenges the industry to create space for all voices, regardless of belief.
