EUROPE: French former snowboard Julie Pomagalski dies at 40


Julie Pomagalski, France’s former world champion snowboard was killed in an avalanche , in Switzerland reported by the French Olympic committee (NOSF) on Tuesday.

She was swept away while skiing off-piste in a group of four at the Canton of UN, officials said.

Police said”the avalanche struck on Tuesday as the group was descending from the Gemsstock mountain, about 2,961m (10,000)ft summit , which is popular with off-piste skiers because of its steep slopes and powder snow.

Pomagalski was a teenager when she became world champion in snowboard cross in 1999.
